So yesterday my cousin and I went to go see Wanted Movie (Which by the way you should go see if you can tolerate the sex and excessive derogatory language and enjoy action packed film) and on the way home we got into an argument (not heated just an I’m right you’re wrong kinda thing) over whose song Apologize was… I have to say we both were right in our own respects…

I said the song was Timbaland’s because:

  • 1) He produced it and probably wrote it
  •  2) it’s on his CD Shock Value Timbaland CD
  • 3) I hadn’t heard of this OneRepublic group she was talking about

She said it was OneRepublic’s because

  • 1) Timbaland was just bringing them out
  • 2) It’s on their CD Dreaming Out Loud CD
  • 3) She wanted to be right and me to be wrong…

So like I said we both were right in our own views… and both could produce proof of our points… I mean both names are probably on the copyrights of the song anyway… Anyway… that’s not why I was writing this post… that’s just a long winded background as to what made me decide to write this post LOL…

I’m actually writing to talk about the song Apologize. Now I must preface this by saying I used to love this song. I first heard it in my Pop Jazz dance class. I immediately started to dance to it. I loved the way it made me feel and it was just a perfect song to dance to because it was so melodious. But then I started to listen to the words… and started to think otherwise about the song…

I’m holding on your rope,
Got me ten feet off the ground
I’m hearin what you say but I just can’t make a sound
You tell me that you need me
Then you go and cut me down, but wait
You tell me that you’re sorry
Didn’t think I’d turn around, and say…

It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late

I’d take another chance, take a fall
Take a shot for you
And I need you like a heart needs a beat
But it’s nothin new
I loved you with a fire red-
Now it’s turning blue, and you say…
“Sorry” like the angel heaven let me think was you
But I’m afraid…

It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late

Bridge (guitar/piano)

It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
It’s too late to apologize, yeah
I said it’s too late to apologize, yeah-
I’m holdin on your rope, got me ten feet off the ground…

So as a person who believes that  knows that music affects us and gives us messages, I thought about the message this song was giving and had to think twice about what I was accepting. So I’m guessing a girl broke a guy’s heart and then tried to apologize but it’s rejected. Now this is no where near biblical or something I’d want to happen to me. I’m particularly reminded of the scripture in Matthew 6 after Jesus is teaching the disciples how to pray where he says “For if you forgive people their wrongdoing, your heavenly Father will forgive you as well. But if you don’t forgive people, your Father will not forgive your wrongdoing.” So… I don’t know about you, but I would much rather have God’s forgiveness than hold onto a grudge against someone for doing me wrong… I mean especially when I do wrong against God every single day… then there’s the parable of the unforgiving slave in Matthew 18…
21 Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?”
22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. 23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ 27 Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.
28“But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ 29 So his fellow servant fell down at his feet[a] and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’[b] 30 And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. 32 Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33 Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ 34 And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.
35 “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.”[c]
I mean how wrong was that??? 100 denarii isn’t 1/3 of that in worth of 10,000 talents… Denari is a day’s wage which wasn’t much in those days… 1 talent of silver is 3,000 sheckles… 1 talent of gold is much more… I mean just doing the math if you didn’t know what was what… 10,000 versus 100… come on now… How in the world can you after receiving pardon for a huge massive debt not forgive and trip over that little amount? Same goes for us… We were forgiven by God when we owed him something so much more than money is worth… our lives… Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”… we were forgiven through the act of love God bestowed on us. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16… all this to say It’s never too late to apologize…
